Introduction

Pre-University Program of LEC, SJTU is a non-degree program designed forinternational students to enhance their language skills, academic performance,and cultural adaptability. The students can thus lay a solidfoundation for their further undergraduate study. Pre-University studentscan get the priority of being accepted to the undergraduate program at SJTUupon passing the official assessment test.

Chinese Program: This program is designed for students who have already achieved a goodlevel of Chinese language proficiency (HSK 4180 or equivalent) but require remediation in academic subjects such asChinese, English, and Mathematics. The duration is one year. A limited numberof mid-term transfer slots are available for outstanding students in the secondsemester.

English Program: This program targets international students with English proficiency(TOEFL80, IELTS5.5, orequivalent) to advance their English, Mathematics, and other academic skills.This program is conducted in English and lasts for one year. A limited numberof mid-term transfer slots are available for outstanding students in the secondsemester.

Both programs offer three specialized tracks to meet students' further educationgoals: Science, Engineering &Agriculture; Medicine; and Humanities & Social Sciences.

The above program is an extension program, not related to any credit ordegree. It is an academic course that is taken by students voluntarily.

Eligibility

1.High school diploma and above.

2.Non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport, in compliance with therelevant regulations of the Chinese Ministry of Education, including the Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry ofEducation of the PRC" and etc.

3. Goodphysical and mental health, with no criminal record.

4.Applicants must be between the ages of 16 (inclusive) and 23 (exclusive).

ThePre-University Program enables students to improve their academic level andadapt to university life. Meanwhile, enriching cultural experience, on-sitevisits, academic subject contests as well as artistic and athletic activitiesare arranged to help enhance students’ capability and competitiveness. Theprogram provides professional coaching for CSCA and HSK examinations, coupledwith dedicated undergraduate admissions counseling, offering end-to-end supportto guide international students through their successful entry into Chineseuniversities.

ApplicationMaterials

Allapplication materials and information provided by applicants must be authentic,accurate and fully complete. Otherwise, the applicant will be disqualified forapplication, enrollment or study.

1. Senior highschool diploma or equivalent qualification. Prospective graduates may provide anofficial high school transcript as proof of graduation.

2. High schoolprofile. The content should include the school's overall introduction,admission requirements, enrollment rate, curriculum system, grading system,university acceptance of graduates, etc..

3. Passportinformation page valid for more than 6 months. Once admitted, passportinformation cannot be changed until enrollment registration is completed.

4. A personalphotograph (color portrait, hat-free).

5. PersonalStatement (must be signed by the applicant; 600–1000 words) covering, butnot limited to: personal background, hobbies and strengths, reasons forapplying to the program, and study plans.

6. One recommendation letter, signedby the recommender and including their contact information (email address and phonenumber).

7. Academic certificates:

7.1 High school transcript(covering all courses completed during high school). Prospective graduates mustsubmit a transcript of all high school courses completed up to the applicationdate.

7.2 Standardized internationaltest scores or national/regional unified high school graduation or universityentrance exam results, such as SAT, AP, ACT, A-Level, IB, UEC, etc. If theabove results cannot be provided, a written explanation can be submitted.

8. Language certificate:

8.1 Chinese Program (1 year) applicants should provide HSKcertificate (HSK 4 score 180) or equivalentcertificate. Chinese Program (0.5 year) applicants should provide HSKcertificate (HSK 5 score 200, with Writing score 60) or equivalent certificate, such as documentation indicating Chineseas a native language.

8.2 English Program (1 year) applicants should provide oneof the following:

TOEFL score report (totalscore 80)

IELTS score report (totalscore 5.5)

Proof of being a nativeEnglish speaker

Certificate of at least twoyears of full-time academic study conducted in English

English Program (0.5 year) applicants should provideone of the following:

TOEFL score report (totalscore 90)

• IELTS score report (total score ≥ 6.0)

• Proof of being a native English speaker

• Certificate of at least two years of full-timeacademic study conducted in English

9. Applicant's birth certificate.

10. The nationality or householdregistration of both the applicant's parents, such as passport or ID card.

11. Applicant whose one or bothparents are Chinese citizens should provide the following materials:

11.1 Certificate of theapplicants foreign nationality obtained at birth or afterward.

11.2 For applicants whoacquired foreign nationality at birth:

(a) If one or both parentswere Chinese citizens and had permanent residence abroad at the time of theapplicant's birth, provide the corresponding permanent residence proof of theparent(s).

(b) If one or both parentswere Chinese citizens and did not have permanent residence abroad at the timeof the applicant's birth, provide a certificate of the applicant's renunciationof Chinese nationality for at least four years by April 30 of the applicationyear.

11.3 For applicants who areoriginally Chinese citizens and later acquired foreign nationality, provideproof of cancellation of their Chinese residence registration and renunciationof Chinese nationality for at least four years by April 30 of the applicationyear.

11.4 All visas, residencepermits, and entry/exit records for China, starting from the applicant's firstpassport.

11.5 Statement of Integrity

Note: Applicants whopreviously held a "People's Republic of China Travel Document" or"People's Republic of China Exit and Entry Permit" must provide therelevant documentation as in section 11.3.

12. Applicants under the age of 18as of September 1, 2026 (inclusive) for the Fall intake, or as of February 1,2027 (inclusive) for the Spring intake, must submit a Guardian Guarantee Form.

13. Award certificates (if any).

14. Other supportive materialsrequired by SJTU.

Note:

If any documents are not inChinese or English, notarized translations in either language are required.

Hard copies of supportingmaterials are not necessary during the application process.

Application Procedures

1.Visit https://elearning.sjtu.edu.cn/register,register your account by following the instructions, and then enter the onlineapplication system;

2.Completethe application form as required, upload the electronic application materials.

3.Paythe application fee of CNY 800 and click to submit the application.

Interview

Theadmission decision is based on a comprehensive evaluation of all theapplication materials as well as integrative test (by case basis). Notificationsof interview (if applicable) arrangements will be sent via email.

Admission

1. Theadmission decision will be made based on a comprehensive evaluation. Applicantsmay check their pre-admission results in the application system https://elearning.sjtu.edu.cn/register.

2. Upon receiving apre-admission notice, applicants are required to confirm theirenrollment via tuition fee payment in the applicationsystem. The payment shall be made within two weeks upon the releaseof the pre-admission results.

3. The"Admission Notice" for the Spring intake programs will be issued inbatches from the end of January, and those for the Fall intake programs will beissued in batches from the end of July.

4. Applicantsmay download the electronic admission notices through the applicationsystem. Physical copies of the admission notices will be provided duringregistration at the beginning of the semester.

3. InsuranceFee

RMB800 per academic year. The relevant regulations by the Ministry of Education ofthe People’s Republic of China and the Management Regulations for InternationalStudent of SJTU require all international students to purchase the GroupComprehensive Insurance in Mainland of China as a prerequisite for theregistration procedures.

4. AccommodationFee

CNY700 per month (quad room). Guaranteed on-campus accommodation is providedfor all students in Pre-University Program at Qibao Campus. Specificdormitory rooms will be assigned by the university.

Scholarship

Pre-University Program offerstwo types of scholarships: the "Freshman Scholarship" and the"Outstanding Student Scholarship". The funding criteria are asfollows:

Students applying for freshman scholarship should click the option “Apply forscholarship” when completing the online application form.

Note:

TheFreshman Scholarship is exclusively available to new students enrolled in theone-year program (fall start). The evaluation will be conducted within onemonth following the application deadline.

Applicantswho pass the initial review will proceed to a scholarship interview. Theinterview schedule will be informed via email, and the results will beannounced after the semester begins.

Theabove scholarships cannot be applied to tuition fees.

Miscellaneous

Aminimum enrollment of 10 students is required for each program. If this numberis not met, the program will be canceled, and tuition will be fully refunded.
