Shanghai Jiao Tong University Welcomes New International Students for 2025 Summer Semester

On August 11th, Shanghai Jiao Tong University's (SJTU) Qibao Campus warmly welcomed its new cohort of international students for the 2025 Summer Semester.

In the afternoon, over a hundred students, faculty, and parents gathered in the campus auditorium for the orientation session. Attendees included key leaders from SJTU's international education divisions: Director Zhai Ying and Deputy Director Yan Gaoming of the International Education Teaching Center, Director Xia Shuyi of the International Education Innovation Center, Director Shan Feng of the International Education Development Center, Director Zhou Zhijun of the International Education Operations Center, and other university representatives. The event was hosted by Kang Yi, a faculty member from the Teaching Center.

Professor Wang Xinrong, Vice Dean of the School of Lifelong Education, delivered the opening address. She extended a heartfelt welcome to the students and encouraged them to embrace their responsibilities as young pioneers of the new era. "May your journey at SJTU become a guiding light in your life," she said, "propelling you forward to create a youth without regrets."

Wu Yangxi, Academic Director of the Global Growth Initiative (Red Vine Plan) and Go Local (HL) Program, provided a detailed overview of the curriculum framework. Highlights included the program's educational objectives, the innovative STEP teaching model, tiered course structures, academic support systems, faculty strengths, and signature extracurricular activities. Feng Li, a representative faculty member, urged students to cherish their time at SJTU, quoting the university's motto: "Today you take pride in SJTU; tomorrow SJTU will take pride in you."

Director Shan Feng of the International Education Development Center emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between families and the university. While encouraging students to explore their creativity freely, he stressed the need for self-discipline in both conduct and ethics. He also called for mutual trust between parents and the institution to support students in achieving their global aspirations. Ruan Weihua from the Operations Center concluded with practical guidance on academic assessments, progress monitoring, certification requirements, and digital learning platforms.
